Mullins is absent from the lineup for Thursday's contest in Toronto. The last time Mullins made a start against a lefty came back on May 15 against Yusei Kikuchi. Kikuchi is on the mound again for Thursday's tilt, but Mullins will begin the series finale on the bench. Colton Cowser will patrol center field Thursday while Austin Hays handles left field.... Orioles' Cedric Mullins: Collects 12th steal
Mullins went 0-for-3 with a walk, a stolen base and one run scored in Wednesday's 3-2 loss to the Blue Jays. Mullins has seen his playing time dip amid his prolonged struggles at the plate. He's gone just 9-for-73 (.123) with a 3:24 BB:K over 26 contests since the start of May, though he has managed to pick up six steals in that span despite his troubles getting on base. Mullins is slashing a meager .178/.225/.314 with 12 steals, six home runs, 22 RBI and 23 runs scored over 182 plate appearances this year. Austin Hays and Colton Cowser have been the main players to benefit from Mullins' decreased playing time, and the Orioles aren't short on prospects to call up if they choose to mix up the composition of outfielders on their roster.... Orioles' Cedric Mullins: Playing time trending down
Mullins is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Blue Jays. Mullins has now been out of the lineup for three of the last four games, and all of them have been against right-handed pitching. He's hitless across his previous five contests, dragging his season line down to .181/.225/.319. Colton Cowser will again be in center field, while Austin Hays handles left.... See More ... Orioles' Cedric Mullins: Sitting against righty again
Mullins is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Blue Jays. Mullins' grasp on a regular role in the Baltimore outfield could be loosening; he'll find himself on the bench against a right-handed starting pitcher (Kevin Gausman) for the second time in three games. Dating back to May 24, Mullins has produced just one hit in 20 at-bats, bringing his season-long slash line down to an abysmal .181/.225/.319 over 178 plate appearances. With Mullins taking a seat, Colton Cowser will cover center field while Austin Hays cracks the lineup in left field.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Cedric Mullins: Day off Saturday
Mullins is not in the starting lineup Saturday versus Tampa Bay. Mullins will get a breather after going 1-for-12 with a triple, two RBI and a run scored while starting the last four games. Colton Cowser will slide over to center field while Kyle Stowers enters the lineup in left field and bats eighth against the Rays.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Cedric Mullins: Sitting vs. southpaw
Mullins is out of the lineup for Sunday's series finale against the White Sox. With the White Sox sending left-hander Garrett Crochet to the mound Sunday, the lefty-hitting Mullins will take a seat for the second straight game. Mullins pinch hit in the seventh inning in Saturday's 5-3 win, striking out in his only at-bat.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Cedric Mullins: Not starting Saturday
Mullins is not in the starting lineup for Saturday's game against the White Sox. Mullins will take a seat Saturday after going 0-for-3 with two strikeouts in Friday's 6-4 win over the White Sox. Baltimore will roll with Kyle Stowers in left field and Colton Cowser in center against Chicago right-hander Erick Fedde.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Cedric Mullins: Swipes two bags in win
Mullins went 2-for-5 with two stolen bases and two runs scored in Thursday's win over the White Sox. Mullins grounded into a fielder's choice in his first at-bat before going on to steal second and third and coming home for Baltimore's first run of the contest. He would add a single and come around to score during a four-run fourth inning for the Orioles, giving him only his second multi-hit performance this month. Mullins is batting just .160 (8-for-50) in May, though he's swiped four bags over his last five games.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Cedric Mullins: Getting rest Wednesday
Mullins is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cardinals, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports. After playing the final three innings of Tuesday's suspended game earlier Wednesday and finishing 0-for-3 in Baltimore's 3-1 loss, Mullins will get a breather for the regularly scheduled game. Colton Cowser will shift over from his usual spot in left field to make room in the lineup for Austin Hays and will replace Mullins in center field.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Cedric Mullins: Two hits, steal in win
Mullins went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a stolen base in Sunday's 6-3 win over the Mariners. This was Mullins' first multi-hit game since April 21. Over the 19 contests in between, he went a poor 6-for-63 (.095) with two steals and three RBI. Mullins has started to lose playing time, with Colton Cowser being the main beneficiary in center field. For the season, Mullins is slashing just .194/.241/.351 with seven steals, six home runs, 20 RBI, 17 runs scored and three doubles over 145 plate appearances.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Cedric Mullins: Losing playing time
Mullins is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Mariners, Rich Dubroff of BaltimoreBaseball.com reports. Mullins will be on the bench for the third time in the last five games despite the O's facing a right-handed pitcher Friday. The left-handed Mullins is amid a massive slump, batting .085 with a 30.2 percent strikeout rate in 63 plate appearances since April 22. Colton Cowser has been earning more work in center field and will start there Friday while Kyle Stowers and Ryan O'Hearn fill out the outfield.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Cedric Mullins: Sitting in second straight game
Mullins is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Diamondbacks. The lefty-hitting Mullins is on the bench for the second straight game against a right-handed starting pitcher, with Colton Cowser once again sliding over from left field to cover center field in Mullins' stead. The Orioles haven't indicated that Mullins is dealing with an injury or illness, so the back-to-back days out of the lineup likely indicate that he's at risk of moving into a part-time role, if he hasn't already. Mullins is off to a rough start to the season, having posted a career-low .611 OPS and career-worst 25.2 percent strikeout rate across 131 plate appearances.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Cedric Mullins: Not starting Saturday
Mullins is not in the Orioles' lineup for Saturday's game against the Diamondbacks, Jacob Calvin Meyer of The Baltimore Sun reports. Mullins has struggled over his last three outings, going 1-for-12 with five strikeouts over that span. Orioles manager Brandon Hyde said Mullins is "pressing big-time," per Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com, though Mullins is still available off the bench for Saturday's contest. Heston Kjerstad will start at left field while Colton Cowser shifts to center field.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Cedric Mullins: Heading to bench Sunday
Mullins is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Reds. With the Orioles wrapping up their series in Cincinnati with a day game and a lefty (Nick Lodolo) on the hill for the Reds, manager Brandon Hyde likely viewed Sunday as an opportune time to give the lefty-hitting Mullins a day off. Ryan McKenna will check in for Mullins in center field.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Cedric Mullins: Sitting versus lefty
Mullins is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Yankees. The Yankees are going with southpaw Carlos Rodon as their starting pitcher, so the Orioles have elected to give the left-handed-hitting Mullins a day off. Ryan McKenna will in for Mullins as Baltimore's starter in center field.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Cedric Mullins: Homers in Friday's loss
Mullins went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 3-2 extra-inning loss to the Athletics. Mullins took Ross Stripling deep in the fourth inning to give the Orioles a 2-1 lead. Prior to Friday, Mullins had gone 0-for-11 with two walks and a stolen base over his last three games. The veteran outfielder is slashing .232/.286/.476 with six homers, 16 RBI, five steals, 16 runs scored and two doubles through 91 plate appearances. He continues to see the majority of the playing time in center field, though it's unclear if his spot is in any danger following the recent call-ups of Heston Kjerstad and Ryan McKenna. If Mullins struggles, he could cede some at-bats versus southpaws to players like McKenna or Jorge Mateo.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Cedric Mullins: Takes seat against lefty
Mullins isn't in Baltimore's lineup for Saturday's game against the Royals. Southpaw Cole Ragans will toe the slab for Kansas City to begin Saturday's contest, so the lefty-hitting Mullins will retreat to the dugout while Jorge Mateo starts in center field and bats ninth.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Cedric Mullins: Walks off Twins
Mullins went 1-for-4 with a walk-off, two-run home run during Wednesday's 4-2 win against the Twins. Mullins extended his hit streak to nine games and has clubbed homers in three of the past four contests. The 29-year-old has rebounded from a poor start to the season and has a .259/.308/.552 slash line with five home runs, three steals, 15 RBI and 14 runs through 17 games.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Cedric Mullins: Pops homer in win
Mullins went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run and a sacrifice fly in Monday's 7-4 win over the Twins. Mullins' fifth-inning blast was ultimately the hit that put the game out of the Twins' reach. The outfielder has hit safely in seven straight games, and he's homered in each of the last two contests. He's batting .265 with an .872 OPS, four long balls, 13 RBI, 12 runs scored, two stolen bases and two doubles over 16 contests. Mullins has hit no higher than fifth in the order this season, but that's allowed him to be more involved in run production with his hot start to the campaign.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Cedric Mullins: Two extra-base hits Sunday
Mullins went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a double in Sunday's 6-4 win over the Brewers. Mullins has hit safely in six straight games, including Saturday's effort off the bench. The center fielder remains in a starting role, but manager Brandon Hyde will have to get creative about how he balances playing time for four outfielders with Colton Cowser's torrid start to the season. To his credit, Mullins has defended his place in the lineup well, batting .261 with an .827 OPS, three homers, two stolen bases, 10 RBI and 11 runs scored over 15 contests.... See More ... See Less
