The Panthers have agreed to terms with Jewell, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. It's a three-year, $22.75 million deal with $10 million guaranteed, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports. The 29-year-old spent each of his first six seasons with the Broncos, and 2023 marked his third with at least 100 tackles. In Carolina, Jewell links back up with DC Ejiro Evero after Evero was Denver's defensive coordinator in 2022. Jewell should know the defense.... See More ... See Less

Broncos' Josey Jewell: Posts 108 stops over 16 games
Jewell recorded 108 tackles (60 solo), including 3.0 sacks, three passes defensed, two forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries over 16 contests during the 2023 campaign. Jewell finished his sixth season in Denver with the second-most tackles behind Alex Singleton. The veteran linebacker's 3.0 sacks and three fumble recoveries were both career highs for each category. Jewell is set to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason, and the Broncos may be compelled to re-sign him ahead of the 2024 campaign based on his consistent production. The 29-year-old will look to pick up where he left off as a strong IDP option next season.... See More ... See Less -
Broncos' Josey Jewell: Gets second sack in win
Jewell had nine tackles (four solo), including one sack, in Sunday's 24-7 win over the Chargers. Jewell got his second sack in three games when he got to Justin Herbert in the second quarter for a six-yard loss. Jewell has seen his snap total increase since the bye week, and his 62 defensive snaps was the most he's played this season. He's up to 78 tackles on the year, which is a distant second on the team behind Alex Singleton (136).... See More ... See Less -
Broncos' Josey Jewell: Records first sack
Jewell tallied three tackles (two solo), including a sack, in Denver's 29-12 win versus the Browns on Sunday. Jewell recorded his first sack of the season versus Cleveland and now has seven in his career. The 28-year-old will look to build off his strong performance when the Broncos take on Houston later this week.... See More ... See Less -
Broncos' Josey Jewell: Looks ready for Week 5
Jewell (hip) was a full participant at practice Thursday. After sitting out of Sunday's 31-28 win at Chicago, it looks like Jewell is now back to full strength for Week 5. He'll resume his role as Denver's top off-ball linebacker versus Breece Hall and the Jets.... See More ... See Less -
Broncos' Josey Jewell: Limited participant in practice
Jewell (hip) was limited in practice Wednesday. Jewell returned to practice after missing last week's win against the Bears with a hip injury. If the 2018 fourth-round pick is able to play versus the Jets on Sunday, he should return to his starting spot at inside linebacker alongside Alex Singleton.... See More ... See Less -
Broncos' Josey Jewell: Six tackles in loss
Jewell registered six tackles (one solo) in Sunday's 17-16 loss to the Raiders. Jewell's lone solo tackle came on an eight-yard scramble by Jimmy Garoppolo at the end of the fourth quarter that gave Las Vegas a first down and sealed the game. The Broncos were able to limit the Raiders to just 61 rushing yards and kept running back Josh Jacobs (19 carries for 48 yards) in check. Jewell emerged as a bright spot for Denver last season when he set career highs in tackles (128), sacks (2.5) and interceptions (two) in 13 games.... See More ... See Less -
Broncos' Josey Jewell: Records three tackles in loss
Jewell recorded three tackles (two solo) in Saturday's 21-20 preseason loss to the 49ers. Jewell was on the field for 34 percent of the Broncos' defensive snaps Saturday. The veteran linebacker suffered an eye injury in Denver's first preseason contest against the Cardinals, but the issue wasn't enough to keep the 28-year-old off the field against the 49ers. With the 2023 campaign quickly approaching, Jewell will reprise his starting role and look to build off a career year last season.... See More ... See Less -
Broncos' Josey Jewell: Poked in eye
Jewell got poked in the eye during Friday's opening preseason game in Arizona, Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com reports. Jewell had accumulated three tackles (two solo) before sustaining the eye injury. The severity of the issue is not known at this time, but it would not be surprising for the Broncos to exercise caution with their starting inside linebacker.... See More ... See Less -
Broncos' Josey Jewell: Completes career year
Jewell recorded 128 tackles (70 solo) to go with 2.5 sacks, two interceptions, four passes defended, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries while playing 13 games in the 2022 season. Jewell set career highs in tackles, sacks and interceptions in the 2022 campaign as he proved to be an integral part of a strong Denver defense this season. The veteran linebacker played an every-down role this season and made the most of his opportunities. Jewell finished second in tackles behind fellow linebacker Alex Singleton, and he could've had an even bigger year had he not missed four games due to calf and knee injuries. The 28-year-old is heading into the final year of the two-year contract worth $11 million that he signed last offseason, so Jewell will likely continue to play an important role in the Broncos' defensive attack in 2023.... Broncos' Josey Jewell: Records 10 tackles in loss
Jewell recorded 10 tackles (nine solo), two interceptions and two passes defensed in Sunday's 34-28 loss to the Panthers. Jewell had a strong defensive performance Sunday, as he tied for the team lead in tackles (10) with safety Kareem Jackson. The linebacker's two interceptions were his first picks of the season, and in nine games played, he is tied for the second-most interceptions and second-most tackles (96) among all Broncos defenders. Jewell will look to keep things rolling with another strong performance when the Broncos host the Cardinals in Week 15.... See More ... See Less -
Broncos' Josey Jewell: Posts double-digit tackles again
Jewell racked up 11 tackles (four solo), including one sack, in Sunday's Week 11 overtime loss to the Raiders. Jewell tied Alex Singleton for the team lead with 11 stops in the contest, marking the third time in six games this season that he's finished with 10 or more tackles. Separate injuries to his calf and knee have caused Jewell to sit out four games thus far, but he's been impressive when he's been on the field, totaling 2.5 sacks and averaging 10 tackles per contest.... Broncos' Josey Jewell: Nine tackles in return
Jewell tallied nine tackles (seven solo), including two tackles for loss, during Sunday's 21-17 victory versus the Jaguars. Jewell played all 72 defensive snaps against Jacksonville after missing Denver's previous two games with a knee injury. The fifth-year linebacker also finished with a team high in combined tackles Sunday, and he has now totaled 39 stops, 1.5 sacks, a forced fumble and fumble recovery over just four games played this season. Jewell should stand to record over 100 tackles for the second time in his career if he can stay healthy over the Broncos' final nine contests.... See More ... See Less -
Broncos' Josey Jewell: Sitting out again Sunday
Jewell (knee) is inactive for Sunday's game versus the Jets, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports. Jewell picked up a sprained knee Week 5 against the Colts, missing Denver's subsequent two contests as a result, He did manage a pair of limited practices this week, though, so he may be closing in on a return to action. Expect Jonas Griffith to start in Jewell's place again Week 7.... See More ... See Less -
Broncos' Josey Jewell: Week-to-week with knee sprain
Coach Nathaniel Hackett said Friday that Jewell is "week-to-week" after sustaining a sprained knee during Denver's 12-9 loss versus Indianapolis on Thursday, Parker Gabriel of The Denver Post reports. Jewell missed the entire second half of Thursday's humbling overtime loss versus the Colts with the injury, and it now appears he could miss extended time. Any time he does miss will be time during which the Broncos' defense as a whole is worse, but Alex Singleton and Jonas Griffith should be decent fill-ins.... See More ... See Less -
Broncos' Josey Jewell: Ruled out Thursday
Jewell (knee) was ruled out for the remainder of Thursday's contest versus the Colts, Nick Kosmider of The Athletic reports Jewell will not return for the second half against Indianapolis after being forced out with a knee injury, though the exact nature and severity of this issue are still unclear. The 27-year-old missed the first two games of the season with a calf injury before recording 23 tackles and a sack as Denver's starting inside linebacker alongside Jonas Griffith over the last two games-plus. Jewell will have an extended 11-day break to recover heading into a Monday night matchup against the Chargers in Week 6.... See More ... See Less -
Broncos' Josey Jewell: Team-high 14 stops in Week 4
Jewell recorded 14 tackles (seven solo), including one for loss, during Sunday's 32-23 loss to the Raiders. Jewell made his season debut in Week 3 after missing the first two games of the season due to a calf injury and has led the team in tackles in each of his first two appearances of the campaign. He's totaled 23 tackles, including three for loss, and a sack while playing nearly every defensive snap for the Broncos over the last two weeks. He'll look to maintain his elite production during Thursday's matchup against the Colts.... See More ... See Less -
Broncos' Josey Jewell: Set for season debut
Jewell (calf) is active for Sunday's game against the 49ers. Jewell logged a trio of limited practices this week, which will be enough for him to be active for the first time this season. He is expected to serve a significant role in the middle of the Denver defense.... See More ... See Less -
Broncos' Josey Jewell: Limited in practice Wednesday
Jewell (calf) was listed as a limited participant on the Broncos' injury report Wednesday. Jewell returned to practice for the first time since being ruled inactive ahead of Denver's season opener against Seattle, though he still was not able to fully suit up due to a lingering unspecified calf issue. After finishing as the Broncos' second-leading tackler (112) in 2020, the 27-year-old suffered a torn pectoral that sidelined him for all but two games last season. Once healthy, Jewell should reprise his role as one of Denver's most productive defenders while playing alongside fellow starting inside linebacker Alex Singleton.... See More ... See Less -
Broncos' Josey Jewell: Won't play versus Houston
Jewell (calf) was ruled inactive ahead of Sunday's game against the Texans, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports. Jewell's will have to wait at least one more before making his 2022 debut after he similarly missed Denver's Week 1 contest due to a lingering calf injury. In the 27-year-old's absence, Jonas Griffith and Justin Strnad both figure to see increased playing time against Houston on Sunday.... See More ... See Less
